There Are Mystery Drones Flying Over My House. I Tried to Track Them Down. #

The Mysterious Nighttime Visitors #

It began on a quiet evening in December. A strange whirring sound caught my attention, prompting me to step outside. There, hovering above my rural Colorado property, was an unidentified drone. This wasn’t an isolated incident - over the following nights, more drones appeared, sometimes flying in formation.

These aerial visitors weren’t just over my land. Reports of similar sightings flooded in from across northeast Colorado and southwest Nebraska. Local sheriffs’ offices were inundated with calls, and the incidents quickly made national news.

The drones, described as six feet wide with red and white lights, were seen flying in grid-like patterns. They appeared around 7 p.m. each evening and disappeared by 10 p.m. Despite the frequent sightings, no one seemed to know who was operating them or why.

The Hunt for Answers #

As the mystery deepened, various theories emerged. Some speculated it was the work of a Mexican drug cartel conducting surveillance. Others suggested it might be a covert military operation. The most prevalent theory was that a private company was behind the flights, possibly conducting some kind of land survey.

Local and federal authorities launched investigations. The Air Force denied any involvement. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) also claimed no knowledge of the operations.

A task force was formed, bringing together law enforcement agencies from Colorado and Nebraska. They set up a surveillance network and organized ground teams to track the drones. Despite these efforts, the operators remained elusive.

The Elusive Truth #

As weeks passed, the sightings continued, but concrete answers remained out of reach. The FAA implemented new rules requiring most drones to broadcast identifying information, but this didn’t seem to affect the mystery flyers.

Some residents took matters into their own hands, attempting to shoot down the drones or use their own drones to chase them. These efforts proved futile and potentially dangerous.

The drone mystery highlighted the challenges of regulating and identifying unmanned aerial vehicles in rural areas. It also underscored the unease many feel about the increasing presence of drones in our skies.

To this day, the true nature and purpose of these nighttime flights remain unknown. The drones eventually stopped appearing, leaving behind more questions than answers. For those of us who witnessed them, the memory of those strange, silent visitors in the night sky lingers on.
